When I look back at where I was when I first met you compared to where I am now, there is no question that you have played a meaningful part in that growth. You have challenged me, encouraged me, believed in me, and —probably most importantly —you have shown me what it looks like to genuinely care about another person’s growth. You have influenced me far beyond dentistry. Yes, I’ve learned an incredible amount from you clinically, but the lessons that have stuck with me the most have been about how to approach dentistry, how to treat people, how to carry yourself, and how to continually strive to become better. You’ve given me perspectives that I know will stay with me throughout my career. There have been plenty of moments during residency when I’ve questioned myself or wondered whether I was where I was supposed to be. Having people like you in my corner has made a tremendous difference. Your willingness to invest your time, knowledge, and energy into me is something I will never take for granted. Thank you for believing in me, challenging me, teaching me, and being someone I can genuinely look up to. I’m incredibly grateful our paths crossed, and I hope that someday I can have the kind of positive impact on another young dentist that you have had on me.

Alan’s presentation was engaging, thought provoking, and incredibly relevant to the challenges we face as clinicians and practice leaders.
